Challenge Five--Google Docs Collaboration

Of all the challenges, this one was probably the easiest to do, but I still had difficulty!!!
First of all, I accidentally used my dps login when I created the Google Doc, so you can imagine my surprise when I went to my personal account and no Google Docs existed! Then, I had trouble getting people to edit...and that wasn't their fault. Some just didn't have access. I wish I had chosed the wiki activity instead. But...sometimes I am just EXTRA.
Nonetheless, I am almost done with the Challenge...I need to make the Google Doc public....when I remember the password to my dps account...sigh.

Challenge Four--Sharing

Wow.....this really took a long time. I have to say, it was a little frustrating to navigate the flikr site and find photos that fulfilled the Creative Commons requirements. Truthfully, I am not sure students would take the time to request licenses and since most of the licenses required a fee or a 5-7 day wait time, it seemed a little impractical. I would rather just take my own photos!!!!

That said, I really enjoyed using Animoto. I wish I could afford the five dollar a month fee so I could use the advanced features, though. That might be something to think about in the future.

I am almost finished with the tech challenge...and since they have gotten progressively harder, I am nervous about this last step. What lies in store????

Challenge Four: Sharing

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

trial run with Animoto

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Challenge Three: Create

I really enjoyed the experience of making a Voki.  It was very user-friendly and I could see how students could make a quality exemplar within a traditional class period as an assignment or how teachers could use this as an extra credit assignment.

I am more than half-way through the Challenge and am really glad I did it.  I have emailed the staff at my school to see if anyone else is interested.  I may have hooked one fish :)

Challenge Two: Commenting

Well....I'm not sure what happened, but last week when I tried to comment, I kept getting a message that Google wouldn't allow me to do so.  Today, I tried the same thing and I got in.  Not sure why.

Challenge Two--Connecting

I am now subscribed to the DPS Technology Challenge Blog, Moviefone Blog blog, the Summit Church Blog and a fellow DPS/AIG blogger.

I am getting better at this...and learning LOADS!!! but it seems like a whole new world of information.  I had no idea how to insert a hyperlink, when given that direction, although I've done it many times before on my website.  Like anything else, practice seems to be the key.

Why I am participating in the DPS Technology Challenge

  • This morning a colleague asked me to help her sign up for a DPS professional development activity.  She wasn't able to sign on to MLP and she was so frustrated!  It turned out that she was using her old password.  Then, when I helped her sign up for the course, I helped her check the status of her account.  It turned out she didn't know she needed to complete the evaluation for each of her activities.  So, I taught her how to do that.
  • I have developed an Excel spreadsheet in order to inventory all of the math materials in our building.  It's so great because teachers can sort the information very easily.  I'm giving a presentation this afternoon, so they can see how this can be done from their own computers.
  • Meanwhile, I have already helped 2 colleagues create their own websites this year on wix.com, and I created my own website (see link!) as well.
  • I realized today that I really like helping my coworkers with technology and I enjoy learning new things.  That's why I am taking the challenge!

Which would you prefer?
